ROMEO & JULIET

‘astra inclinant, sed non obligant.’

the stars incline us, they do not bind us.

Romeo & Juliet Announcement

Production Starting in 2024

In Fair Verona, Where We Lay Our Scene…

Romeo and Juliet is one of the most infamous stories ever told, and continues to intrigue creatives and entice audiences. With this screen adaptation, dEFAULT are aiming to bring a new spin to the tragedy, whilst retaining the language that makes the piece so beautiful.

Where Civil Blood Makes Civil Hands Unclean…

Adapted for screen by Luke Martin, the play-script has been transformed into a fast-paced cinematic story, told with the pacing and structure of a modern day movie.

Without ever fully letting go of the melodrama, this adaption aims to bring a relatability to its characters (some who may be a little less recognisable than others!).

It still takes place in a world where love at first sight is true and people are at their most eloquent when in the most distress, but a lot of the world will also be very close to our own.

Is Now The Two Hours’ Traffic Of Our Stage…

In the early months of 2024, we will be running a crowdfunding campaign, alongside pitching the project to potential investors.

We are currently in the early stages of pre-production – assembling the team behind the scenes, sourcing locations, and finalising castings. The plan is for production to occur over the latter half of July and throughout August.

After production is complete, post-production will begin immediately. The finished film will be submitted to a variety of festivals, and from there, we’ll see where it leads!

The Which, If You With Patient Ears Attend…

dEFAULT has produced several Shakespeare short films, and many of the team have produced much more together. They finally feel like it is the right time to take the step into making a full feature film.
